ABOUT KIT

ABOUT KIT

Between my training about plants (especially natives) and stormwater issues, I’m a quick study. Doing garden advising for the last 10 years, I can hear your problems and suss out more issues of concern and opportunities too.

I am a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP), level 1, and have a Horticulture Certificate from Graduate School USA in DC. I was co-founder and co-director of the National Capital Region Watershed Stewards Academy, which organizes courses for adults to understand the problems of stormwater in cities with lots of pavement and people, and how to mitigate some of those problems, including with conservation landscapes, rain barrels and cisterns.

I am now Advocacy director of Friends of Sligo Creek (FOSC), an active member of its Stormwater Committee, and a Board member for the last 8 years; and on the steering committee of the Stormwater Partners county coalition and the Takoma Horticultural Club. I am the native plant consultant in the Sacred Grounds adult education program in Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, and supervise several stormwater projects funded by the Chesapeake Bay Trust. I’ve worked with the Montgomery Housing Partnership and CASA on stormwater issues.

“Kit helped us plan and execute our front yard garden. Mostly native plants, no grass at all. Gave away the lawn mower! When the weather is nice and we’re sitting on the front patio, people often tell us how much they like our yard. And, it’s just gotten better over the years. Thanks, Kit!”
